Rocky Mountain Goodbye…

The time has come to trade in the mountains and spurs for peaches and sweet tea; Dowell & Co. is Georgia-bound.

After four transformative years, it is time to say goodbye to Colorado. The place where I formally started Dowell & Co., got married, learned to hunt, rode horses, surfed rivers, and made friends and memories that will last a lifetime. Bittersweet as it is, we will be headed back east to Atlanta, Georgia this October.

While the list of things I will miss in Colorado is too long to include here, there are many things I am excited about in Georgia. It feels a lot like picking up where I left off, both Mindy and I graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2017 and can’t wait to be back in SCAD territory!

Being closer to a coast also holds its own draw. Surf photography seems worlds away from the work I shoot now, but it is the subject that sparked my love of photography and helped hone my shooting style back during those blissful college days. To be closer to the coast that shaped me with a new lens, literally and metaphorically, is something that I am very much looking forward to. There are also so many incredible stories and places to be explored; the wildlife and scenery of the barrier islands, hunting in the marshes, and going aboard commercial fishing boats to name a few.

As for Atlanta, the city is home to a heap of production studios, movie sets, actors, and musicians, and has cemented itself as a hub for creativity. To be a part of that community will bring with it a surge of creative energy and with so much production happening, it will be easy to find locations, talent, and crew for all the productions we handle here at Dowell & Co.. Already we are gearing up for some fun test shoots with stunt performers from the growing movie industry!

As we close this chapter full of cowboys and blue skies we open up to a new one full of humidity, hospitality, and opportunity. To the friends we are leaving behind, I hope to see you soon, to I-70 winter driving, I hope to never see you again, and with that goodbye Colorado, and hello Georgia!
