Back to School
My creative partner, Mindy, and I recently had the opportunity to return to SCAD for a fireside chat as part of their Macro Media lecture series, sharing our journey and how we came to build Dowell & Co. together. We talked about the twists and turns of our careers—Mindy’s transition from Interior Design to Art Direction and Production, and my shift from exclusively assisting other photographers to taking on my own clients. It was humbling (and a little surreal) to be on the other side of the student experience, seeing wide, intent stares and even a few chuckles as we shared our insights.

One World, Many Faces
Looking back on some of the beautiful faces I’ve been lucky enough to photograph over the years. One of the best parts of my job is getting to meet people with different backgrounds and stories, UN diplomats, fly fishing guides, CEOs, and factory workers, getting to know people all over the country has made me realize that our differences are always smaller than we think and that we are all just human beings who need clean air and water, healthy food, and love.
At Dowell & Co. we will continue to unhold a higher standard of diversity, equity and inclusion within our storytelling and talent selection.

Rocky Mountain Goodbye…
After four transformative years, it is time to say goodbye to Colorado. The place where I formally started Dowell & Co., got married, learned to hunt, rode horses, surfed rivers, and made friends and memories that will last a lifetime. Bittersweet as it is, we will be headed back east to Atlanta, Georgia this October.

Made vs. Found
The story of two types of photography.
Made and Found images are really the only two types of photography. Made images are the result of a photographer making decisions about what they choose to put or not put in the frame; editorial photography, portrait photography, product photography, and fashion photography to name a few. A Made image could undergo a vast quantity of color, and content adjustments in its final form; almost a collage of introduced digital elements. While Found images are exactly that, found slices of life that the photographer came across; photojournalism, street photography, and nature photography. In it’s final form a Found image would have very minimal edits and adjustments.

Move over Hygge, Here comes Malone
In the ever-evolving landscape of language and cultural expressions, a new term has emerged - Malone. It has swiftly become my favorite descriptor for that feeling of bliss during moments of tranquility. Unlike its predecessor, Hygge, Malone captures the essence of an American-style coziness that doesn't necessarily require company but thrives in the simplicity of life.
